At the Commissioners Court meeting last week, a group of precinct chairs and Republican activists gathered in strong opposition to a resolution to ban the implementation of precinct based voting. The resolution, which was titled on the agenda as “Discuss and approve a resolution opposing the elimination of the county-wide polling place program,” meaning if passed the Commissioners Court would disapprove of moving to precinct based voting.

Precinct chairs, the grassroots leaders of the Parker County Republican Party, led the charge in opposing the resolution. These voters raised concerns about the preservation of election integrity and security, emphasizing the need for reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process including during recounts.. Many of these activists argued shifting to precinct-based polling would enhance the local control and organization of elections, ensuring greater security and a more structured process.

In a statement, Chairman Brady Gray, urged the Commissioners to reject the resolution, underscoring the party’s stance on prioritizing election integrity. Gray highlighted that “secure Texas elections,” including “assigned-precinct voting locations only,” was one of the top priorities of the Republican Party of Texas (RPT). This priority also called for using hand-marked paper ballots and ensuring that votes are counted on non-software programmable tabulators. Furthermore, the Parker County Republican Executive Committee had unanimously approved a resolution in support of these measures in 2024, reiterating their commitment to restoring voter confidence and transparency.

With public trust in elections at an all-time low, Gray stressed that supporting the elimination of county-wide polling places aligns with the RPT’s efforts to address these concerns. He also pointed to pending legislation in the Texas Legislature that would directly impact the county’s election process, emphasizing adopting a resolution opposing the county-wide polling place program would contradict the second legislative priority of the Republican Party of Texas.

The resolution was ultimately tabled by the commissioners after discussions on the costs and logistics of implementing precinct-based polling. This delay allows for continued debate and public input on the issue. Although the commissioners may revisit the issue in the coming weeks or months, the immediate outcome has been a victory for Republican activists who are advocating for precinct-based voting. The tabling of the resolution reinforces the power of local political engagement and grassroots activism in shaping the future of election policies in Parker County.

As the debate continues, it’s important to acknowledge the hard work of Cricket Miller, Parker County’s election administrator, and her team. Their dedication to election administration is vital in ensuring smooth, trustworthy processes for local voters. Thanks to their diligent efforts, there is no evidence of voter fraud in Parker County. Now is the time to implement the best voting practices to further secure our elections For the Parker County Republican Party and its supporters, this moment marks just one step in the ongoing fight to enhance the integrity of the electoral process.
